Overview

The Gateway Vocational Training Center (GVTC) offers a diverse range of programs designed to equip individuals with practical skills and knowledge. In Phase 1 of our operations in Bentol, we are proud to present the following programs:

Qualification outcomes:

At Gateway VTC, our Plumbing and Pipefitting program is meticulously structured to ensure trainees acquire the precise competencies demanded in the field. Through a comprehensive curriculum spanning multiple levels, participants gain proficiency in various aspects of plumbing operations.

  • Level 2:
    – Apply safety rules and regulations in plumbing operations
    – Utilize and maintain hand tools effectively
    – Handle and store plumbing materials with care
    – Read and produce basic sketches and drawings
    – Execute basic excavation tasks
    – Perform estimations, measurements, and calculations accurately
    – Plan and organize plumbing work efficiently
    – Execute soft soldering operations and basic metalwork
    – Work safely on scaffolding, work platforms, and ladders
    – Conduct basic pipework and maintenance of domestic plumbing installations
  • Level 3:
    – Communicate effectively with others in a professional setting
    – Utilize and maintain power tools proficiently
    – Apply basic manual metal arc welding techniques
    – Perform calculations relevant to plumbing operations
    – Conduct basic leveling, bricklaying, plastering, and concreting tasks
    – Read and interpret basic building drawings
    – Apply basic oxy-acetylene welding techniques
    – Install and adjust water service controls, water main pipe systems, and water services
  • Level 4:
    – Install gas supply systems, stormwater, sub-soil drainage systems, and below-ground sanitary drainage systems
    – Install prefabricated inspection openings, enclosures, gutters, and downpipes
    – Fit sanitary fixtures proficiently
    – Erect and dismantle scaffolding as required
    – Foster innovation in the plumbing workplace, developing creative solutions for industry challenges

 

At Gateway VTC, our Electrical and Solar program is meticulously designed to equip trainees with the comprehensive competencies required in the dynamic field of electrotechnology. Through a structured curriculum spanning multiple levels, participants gain proficiency in various aspects of electrical and solar tasks.

  • Level 2:
    – Apply safety rules and regulations in an electrotechnology environment
    – Communicate effectively in an electrotechnology work environment
    – Safely utilize hand and power tools in electrotechnology operations
    – Efficiently plan and organize work in an electrotechnology environment
    – Perform basic soldering and de-soldering procedures
    – Prevent electrostatic damage to electrotechnology components
    – Conduct basic metalwork tasks
  • Level 3:
    – Apply knowledge of basic circuit protection devices
    – Understand and install electrotechnology cables and accessories
    – Demonstrate proficiency in basic electronic components and circuits
    – Design and construct single-phase electrical circuits
    – Utilize test equipment for electrotechnology measurements
    – Demonstrate knowledge of emergency preparedness and response
    – Understand electrotechnology fundamentals
    – Conduct insulation resistance tests
    – Interpret basic electrotechnology drawings and symbols
    – Install electric wireways
  • Level 4:
    – Apply basic knowledge of analogue and digital electronics
    – Perform installation and testing of wiring for single-phase domestic and industrial electrical circuits
    – Install, repair, and maintain lighting systems and structures
    – Install and test electrical appliances

 

Our Road Maintenance and Construction (RMTC) program is tailored to equip graduates with the specialized skills needed to excel in the demanding field of road construction and maintenance. Through a structured curriculum comprising multiple levels, participants gain proficiency in various aspects of roadworks and maintenance.

  • Level 2:
    – Implement health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements on road construction sites
    – Apply and maintain hand and power tools according to manufacturer specifications
    – Operate and maintain small plant and equipment to manufacturers’ specifications
  • Level 3:
    – Execute fundamentals for roadworks and maintenance to company and national standards
    – Construct secondary and feeder gravel roads with precision
    – Erect road furniture, signage, and markings according to site and legal requirements
  • Level 4:
    – Construct road concrete elements according to drawings and specifications
    – Perform road maintenance in accordance with company policy, specifications, and contract requirements
    – Develop work readiness skills for seamless integration into the workforce

Upon completion of our RMTC program, graduates will possess the necessary expertise to construct and maintain secondary and feeder gravel roads, concrete elements, and erect road furniture, signage, and markings, adhering to strict specifications and quality standards. At Gateway VTC, our Carpenter & Joiner or Furniture & Cabinetmaker qualification program prepares individuals for rewarding careers in woodworking, offering specialized training in essential woodworking tasks. Whether you’re inclined towards carpentry, joinery, furniture making, or cabinet making, our curriculum is designed to hone your skills and expertise for real-world applications.

Level 2: National Vocational Certificate in General Woodworking


– Apply Safety Health Environmental Quality principles to a work area
– Develop essential work and life skills
– Plan and organize woodworking activities efficiently
– Demonstrate understanding of timber properties
– Utilize and maintain woodworking hand tools proficiently
– Prepare timber by hand for various applications
– Construct timber joints by hand with precision
– Utilize and maintain portable power tools safely
– Perform basic woodwork finishes to enhance product quality
– Manufacture basic wood products to industry standards
– Transport and store joinery and woodwork materials and finished products securely

Level 3: Specialization in either Carpentry & Joinery or Furniture & Cabinet Making

Carpentry & Joinery:
– Apply Safety Health Environmental Quality principles to a work area
– Apply essential work and life skills
– Construct complex timber joints by hand with precision
– Operate and maintain stationary machines in woodworking effectively
– Prepare timber using machine techniques
– Perform advanced wood surface finishing processes for superior results
– Perform glazing for windows and doors
– Install and replace windows, doors, shutters, ceilings, partitions, mouldings, wall panelling, and floors with proficiency

Furniture & Cabinetmaking:
– Apply Safety Health Environmental Quality principles to a work area
– Apply essential work and life skills
– Construct complex timber joints by hand with precision
– Operate and maintain stationary machines in woodworking effectively
– Prepare timber using machine techniques
– Perform advanced wood surface finishing processes for superior results
– Perform glazing for windows and doors
– Decorate furniture with finesse
– Manufacture and install built-in cupboards, chairs, couches, tables, and beds to exact specifications
– Install ceilings, partitions, mouldings, wall panelling, and floors with precision

Level 4: Specialization in either Carpentry & Joinery or Furniture & Cabinet Making

Carpentry & Joinery:
– Perform advanced machining processes using stationary machines for intricate woodworking tasks
– Construct complex timber joints using machines for superior strength and durability
– Set out and manufacture complex doors, door frames, roof trusses, shuttering, and wooden stairs with precision
– Renovate roofs, roof trusses, and wooden stairs with expertise
– Construct suspended and wooden ceilings, as well as wooden flooring to industry standards

Furniture & Cabinetmaking:
– Perform advanced machining processes using stationary machines for intricate woodworking tasks
– Identify, select, and install specialized cabinet accessories for enhanced functionality
– Construct and install built-in furniture and cabinets with precision
– Set out and manufacture timber furniture with attention to detail
– Renovate furniture and cabinet products to restore their aesthetic appeal and functionality

Please pick up the application package, complete the application form, and submit it. Your application form will be screened to be followed by an aptitude test and interview

For Electrical and Solar Installation, you must have completed high school and passed the WAEC and above. For other qualifications, you must be a 10th-grade student and above.

We offer courses in electrical & solar installation, plumbing & pipefitting, road maintenance & construction, and general woodworking (carpentry & joinery or furniture & cabinetmaking)
