Plumbers and pipefitters install, repair, and maintain pipes, pipe systems, and controls used for water, waste, hot liquids, or gases. Plumbers also install water heaters and fixtures such as bathtubs, toilets, washbasins, and showers
Where do Plumbers and Pipefitters work?
commercial buildings, factories and plants, mines, private homes, construction sites, outdoor drainage fields, and anywhere pipe systems require repairs
What do Plumbers & Pipefitters do?
- Measure, mark and cut holes in walls, ceilings, and floors for pipes to pass through.
- Measure, mark, cut, thread, bend, and position pipes.
- Test pipes and lines for leaks using pressure gauges
- Install pumps, heating and cooling systems, gas supply systems, water tanks, septic systems, water heaters, toilets, wash basins, water fire-fighting systems, irrigation systems and gutters.
- Make and interpret basic sketches and drawings to lay out pipe systems and calculate materials required.
Join pipes using clamps, couplings, screws, bolts, cement, plastic adhesives, valves, soldering, brazing, and welding
- Perform basic sheet metal work and metal fabrication
- Perform basic bricklaying, plastering and concreting.
